Essay instead of safe

The play is a comical parody enlivened by its witty
dialogue and its funny characters, and
perhaps more successful in its sunshine than The Way
of the World, a little while ago considered Congreve's best
play. The sheer character is Valentine, then Jeremy,
Valentine's resourceful subaltern; Sir Sampson, with
his 'blunt good humor'; Ben, the rough young sea-dog,
who intends to join in marriage whom he chooses; Miss
Prue, alone too ready to learn the lessons in be enamoured of
given her by Tattle, the vain, moiety-witted beau,
who finds himself conjugal to Mrs. Frail, the lady of
affluent virtue, when he thinks he has captured
Angelica; and Foresight, the easily duped old astrologe

Valentine has fallen while burdened with the displeasure of his
father by his extravagance, and is besieged ~ the agency of
creditors. His father, Sir Sampson Legend, offers
him 4000 (solitary enough to his debts) if he desire
sign a bond engaging to require over his right to his
heritage to his younger brother Ben. Valentine,
to escape from his embarrassment, signs the
~age. He is in love with Angelica, who possesses a
fortune of her own, but so remoter she has not yielded

to his appeal. Sir Sampson has arranged a match
between Ben, who is at the great deep, and Miss Prue, an
awkward countrified girl, the daughter of Foresight, a
superstitious crafty fool who claims to be some
astrologer. Valentine, realizing the ruin entailed ~ means of
the signature of the bond, tries to prevail upon his father
by submission, and fails; afterward pretends to be mad
and incompetent to sign the final deed of carriage to
his brother. Finally Angelica intervenes. She
induces Sir Sampson to propose marriage to her,
pretends to accept, and gets madness of
Valentine's bond. When Valentine, in loss of hope at
finding that Angelica is nearly to marry his father,
declares himself quick to sign the conveyance, she
reveals the plan , tears up the bond, and declares
her fondness for Valentine
