GOTHIC IMAGINATION IN TIM BURTON’S BATMAN RETURNS

In the films directed and produced through Tim Burton the most apparent characteristic is the of the eye style, the strange worlds and their stylized complexion have a design that is unique and recognizable. His love for everything things dark and bizarre has in a high degree. influenced the visual style of his films. Burton has a infamous and gothic visual style, and Batman Returns is a defining film of Burton’s trademark Gothicism that established his recognizable of the eye style which was later used in tot~y of his films. First question we bear to ask ourselves is how the movie fits into the rude tradition? Although the film is urban, it has a rude, fairy-tale like gothic vibe to it. The vision in the movie is surreal and extravagant. Burton even stated himself that his take without ceasing Gotham was “ As if Hell had erupted end the streets and kept on going. divided souls. Batman Returns easily addresses all of these staples of the film noir

style.

Burton’s use of lighting is depending in Batman Returns. He uses complicated buoyant

patterns to create the dark, short of money, and untrustworthy environment of Gotham City.
